Astràgali Theatre in Italy will host a special cinematic and cultural event on Friday, December 19, 2025, entitled “Through the Eyes of Gaza”, as part of the experience of the Gaza International Women’s Film Festival. The event aims to shed light on the Palestinian humanitarian and cultural reality through cinema and artistic dialogue.
The program includes a diverse range of activities, beginning with an introduction and open discussion featuring Ada Donno and Marisa Manno, focusing on the role of cinema in conveying truth and building cultural bridges between peoples. The discussion will also explore the experience of the Gaza International Women’s Film Festival and its importance in supporting independent Palestinian voices.
The event will also feature a special conversation with Monica Maurer and Milena Fiore, who will share their experiences in filmmaking related to humanitarian issues, as well as discuss the impact of visual storytelling and documentary cinema in preserving collective memory and resisting oblivion.
In addition, the program includes screenings of several short films, among them “Appointment with Death” by director Monica Maurer, which presents a powerful cinematic reflection on life and destiny under harsh circumstances.
The event will also screen “Exception” by director Ezzedeen Shallah, “The Orphan” by Jordan Work-Morse, and “Drawing for Better Dreams” by directors Mai Odeh and Dina Gaza. These films offer diverse artistic perspectives while raising profound questions about childhood, loss, hope, and the ability to dream despite pain and adversity.
“Through the Eyes of Gaza” is part of broader cultural efforts aimed at using cinema as a tool for expression and peaceful resistance, while providing a platform for human stories emerging from Gaza beyond stereotypes and closer to the everyday realities of its people.
