France – The Gaza Film Diploma is participating in the Palestine Pavilion at the Cannes Film Festival in France. The diploma program is organized by the Gaza International Women’s Film Festival, founded and chaired by Dr. Ezzedeen Shallah, in cooperation with the Palestinian Ministry of Culture, a distinguished group of filmmakers, and under the overall supervision of acclaimed Palestinian filmmaker and key partner of the diploma program, Mai Masri.
Dr. Shallah stated that Camilla Toschi, Director of the Florence Film Festival and founding member of the Gaza International Women’s Film Festival, together with film critic, filmmaker, and founding member Gabriella Gallozzi, represented the Gaza Film Diploma project during a seminar held at the Palestine Pavilion. The seminar presented a comprehensive overview of the diploma’s vision and objectives.
The Gaza Film Diploma is considered one of the leading cultural and cinematic initiatives aimed at supporting and empowering women in the Gaza Strip through academic and professional film education and training delivered directly within Gaza, despite the challenging conditions faced by the region.
The seminar highlighted the importance of developing a new generation of Palestinian filmmakers capable of conveying the Palestinian narrative to the world through a professional cinematic language. It also emphasized the role of Palestinian women in cultural and cinematic movements through programs supervised by the Gaza International Women’s Film Festival.
Dr. Shallah affirmed that participation in the Cannes Film Festival represents an important step toward strengthening the Palestinian presence in international film events and opening new opportunities for cultural and artistic partnerships that support Palestinian cinema, particularly in Gaza.
The Gaza International Women’s Film Festival oversees the Gaza Film Diploma program, which is expected to produce six Palestinian films to be screened during the festival’s upcoming edition, scheduled to launch on October 26, the Palestinian National Women’s Day. The festival will soon announce the opening of submissions for feature-length and short narrative and documentary films addressing women’s issues from different countries around the world.
